Our Story
Foss Communications was founded in 1998 by Rick Foss after his service in the Marine Corps. In 1999 after graduating from SDSU and working in the accounting field, Jason Foss partnered with Rick, bringing his accounting skills to complement Rick's expertise. The company’s initial business focus was voice and data cabling for commercial businesses.
As the dot com bubble burst, the company expanded their services. In 2001, Foss Communications became ADT dealers to offer security solutions and in 2002 they partnered with Jerry Cook to form Audio Video Integrations (AVI) to offer residential audio-video systems. Central vacuum systems were also added to the product line to continue the goal of being a one stop shop for residential customers.
In 2004, the company changed its name to Foss Communications & Security, Inc. to better reflect its full range of products and services. At this time, the company also parted ways with ADT due to our belief that they were more focused on monitoring contracts than on customer service. As a small, local business, Foss prioritized customer service and reputation more than anything else. By 2004, telephone systems and paging systems were added to the product mix for commercial customers and to replace the old, bulky intercoms found in older houses.
From 2004 to 2015, the businesses continued to thrive and develop their product mixes and customers in both the residential and commercial markets. In 2015, Rick and Jason decided to go their separate ways. That’s when Jason started Foss Security, Inc. and Foss Tech, Inc. with Foss Security focusing on the security industry and Foss Tech concentrating on the other product lines we have always offered. From 2015 to 2022, those two companies continued to grow and work closely with AVI to provide complete solutions to all their customers.
In 2022-2023, a simplifying of the companies and focus were needed. Jason is no longer a partner in AVI, and Foss Tech will now be the “Custom Division” of Foss Security, Inc. The companies may be simplifying and streamlining things, but with over 20 years’ experience across the entire commercial and residential technology space, we will continue to design, install, and service a complete line of solutions for our customers.
